Notes to Grandchildren – February 1, 2024 (Write Your Reality)

28 Apr

Dear Grandchildren,

We get to write our reality.

If you believe that you can’t do something, you won’t be able to.

If you want to believe that you can’t do arithmetic or mathematics, arithmetic and mathematics will always be a challenge and a limiting factor for you.

If you think the food is always bad at a particular restaurant, you will always find fault with the food from there.

If your prejudice causes you to think that people — whites, blacks, Hispanics, Japanese, Chinese, liberals, conservatives, pro-choice, Protestants, Catholics, pro-birth, Muslims, Hindu, Buddhists, Democrats, Republicans, NRA, MAGA, Martians, whatever — act a certain way, you will always find evidence to support your prejudice.

If you choose to be afraid, you will live in fear. (Scientific studies have shown that 85 percent of people’s fears never happen. Seems like a colossal waste of time to me.)

A change of perspective is in order

  • believe you can
  • see numbers a friends not enemies
  • look for the good not the bad
  • reject prejudices and deal individually with all peoples
  • avoid fearmongers and focus on what is within your control.

Write your best reality and stop listening to the biases, prejudices, and fears of others.

Love,

Grandfather
